BetaFamily, the well-known indie community for user testing apps, had over time had too many features built on top of each other and become too expensive to maintain. It had also made it messy and slow for users to use.

BACKGROUND

BetaFamily was built about 10 years ago and is a well-known indie app user testing community with 100,000 members worldwide. Using the service was free, but if you wanted to use more functions, you had to pay. There was also a subscription option that very few used.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Over the years, new versions and updates had been made by various developers. There were lots of good features on the site but the problem is that they had become too many and it had made the site complicated and slow to use. It also didn’t work well in a mobile environment.

Updating all the features that you weren’t even sure the users used was expensive and time-consuming. The site had quite good traffic and was used by many but mostly because it was a good free alternative on the market.

SOLUTION

came to the conclusion in my research that the best solution was not to build on the site. Without instead building a completely new site according to the MVP model. That is, start by building what is really needed to see that it works in a first version. Then you test and build new functions afterwards.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT

The client realized that there was a higher value in scrapping the old site and instead building a brand new one from scratch. Don’t dig into old legacy.

New flows

Shows the developers the “Client” processes and flows.

Shows the developers the “Tester” processes and flows.

Algorithm for reward

Algorithms for compensation: Instruction for the “developers” how the algorithms to calculate which testers should be invited and how big their compensation will be. The testers’ different fees are calculated based on a staircase model.
